Scoop
2004 - November 5, 2009
I remember seeing Scoop for the first time; when seeing him at the vet I was thinking "I thought we were getting a dog, not a horse!" Everybody I talked to thought we was the tallest Airedale they had ever seen. He had a huge personality to go with his size. His two greatest obsessions were running water and retrieving tennis balls. When he was less than two years old, he almost killed himself by drinking out of the sprinkler non-stop, until he over-hydrated and looked like he was falling down drunk. In his final days, the only way we could often get him up was to turn on the water in the bathtub. Mowing the back lawn took twice as long as it should have because Scoop would drop the ball in front of the lawn mower so that we would have to throw it, even less than two weeks before he died. Scoop and I walked all over town and was beloved in the bank and the downtown shops. He was even invited into Scoop Jackson's house. People who never would have given us the time of day smiled & nodded, just because Scoop was with us. He will sorely be missed.
Jack
1998 - October 28, 2009
His remembrance will come; it is just too hard to put into words right now.
Sophie McCleod
I write this remembrance with profound grief and sadness. Sophie (Kelii) was just a year old when we adopted her from Eastern Washington through NWATR. We knew she had a severe heart murmur but had already fallen in love with her sweet face online. Our vet indicated she would live a very short life estimated at less than five years. But, Sophie thrived with us. We had so much fun as a family. It was a funny thing, although she would answer to Sophie, she really understood it when we referred to her as "Little Girl". I could be at the other end of the house and I could say "I wonder where Little Girl is" . The next thing I knew is that she would be at my side, smiling that toothy grin of hers. The neighbors all loved her. She never barked or misbehaved. Oh, occasionally, she would pull a pillow off the bed, but would leave it gently on the floor without ever damaging anything. Of course, this usually would happen when we left the house without saying "I'll be right back". (smile). She was slowing down and this warm summer weather had been tough for her with her breathing. But, she still enjoyed her walks and playing with her "babies". You were instrumental in facilitating my relationship with Sophie and I want to share with you my gratitude for the blessing she was in my life. We will miss her terribly but am very grateful for the opportunity to experience her wonderful spirit. She was loved a lifetime in the too short of a time frame that we got to spend with her. God Bless.
Dotti
Dotti, Our Spotted Airedale
Dotti showed up on a construction site that I was inspecting in December 2007. Apparantly, she had been lost or had been dumped. A few of the guys on the crew saw her on the far side of the Sauk River and somehow coaxed her to swim across, even though the water was at flood stage. I tried to find her home, to no avail. I then tried to find her a new home, since we already had 3 dogs, but no luck there, either, so Dottie came home with me on December 20. I named her Dottie, not only for the obvious reason, but also because I found her at work and I work for the Department of Transportation, so it fit doubly. Our vet, who adores our Airedale, wrote under the spot for breed, that she was a spotted Airedale. She was very devoted to me and followed me everywhere. R.I.P. DottieDog... we miss you and hope to see you farther down the road.
Hank
Hank crossed the Rainbow Bridge on June 16, 2009 at 12 years of age at his home with his family by his side. The photo above is all Hank. Hank can now play with his Airedale buddy, Teddy, his Airedale sister, Emma, and Airedale friend, Carmen, as they all were waiting for him at the other end of the bridge. He was always surrounded by Airedales and a very loving and caring family all of his life. He was his Dad's pride and joy and they shared many years of the good life. Hank is irreplaceable but the good times and memories will always remain. If there are martinis in heaven, please save the olives for Hank. The little critters had better watch out with all four of them there.
